Il 3 giugno 1963 il Cardinale Mattia Carcano è in attesa di di parlare per l'ultima volta con il suo vecchio amico Angelo Roncalli, Papa Giovanni XXIII, che sta morendo. Quattro anni prima era iniziato quello che doveva essere un papato di transizione e che, invece cambiò il rapporto della Chiesa con i fedeli, arrivando al cuore della gente, e che aprì la nuova era dei rapporti poltici tra superpotenze, favorendo il dialogo tra Kennedy e Kruscev e aumentando il potere poltico del Vaticano.
Il film, liberamente ispirato a I misteri del processo Monti e Tognetti (di Gaetano Sanvittore, Milano, 1869)[1], rappresenta una rilettura romanzata dell'ultima condanna a morte decretata dall'autorità papale, il 22 ottobre 1867[2]: Magni venne accusato di anticlericalismo ma il regista rispose di essere semplicemente contrario al potere temporale dei pontefici e ai processi fatti senza ragioni[3].

Il film descrive con accenti grotteschi la decrepitezza del potere temporale e delle sue leggi nella Roma papalina dove, dopo la citata arringa di monsignor Colombo, uno degli anziani vescovi viene risvegliato dal sonno per il tempo necessario a votare la condanna a morte dei due patrioti. Tale potere cadrà tre anni dopo con la breccia di porta Pia.

Kate Bush's "Running Up That Hill" is featured multiple times during the season, including as part of the key scene in episode 4 with Max escaping from Vecna. The Duffers had envisioned a powerful emotional song for Max and had tasked music supervisor Nora Felder to determine which song would be used. Felder came upon "Running Up That Hill", which the Duffers agreed was a great fit for both the music itself and the theme of dealing with God. Winona Ryder also mentioned in an interview that she had been dropping hints to include the singer since the first season, arriving on sets in her Kate Bush T-shirts. Felder knew that Bush had been cautious on music licensing before, but after contacting her, Felder learned Bush was a fan of the show, and after reviewing the script pages where the song would be used, Bush agreed to clear licensing rights to the song for the show.[65][66] The song saw a resurgence of popularity with an increase of over 8,700% on streaming charts, reaching the second-most heard song on Spotify playlists in the United States and the fourth-most song for worldwide charts.[67] Metallica's "Master of Puppets" was prominently featured in the season finale when Eddie played its guitar riffs and solo as music to lure and distract demobats in the Upside Down. The song also got a significant boost peaking at number one on streaming platforms,[68] and made listings on music charts in both the U.S. and UK for the first time since the song's original release in 1986.[69]
The fourth season was released on the streaming platform Netflix in two volumes, the first volume with seven episodes was released on May 27, 2022, while the second volume with two episodes was released five weeks later on July 1, 2022.[81]

La diretta dei funerali del papa emerito Benedetto XVI, folla a San Pietro per l'ultimo saluto a Joseph Ratzinger, dimessosi da Papa nel 2013 e morto il 31 dicembre scorso all'età di 95 anni. Terminata la cerimonia funebre con Papa Francesco che ha benedetto la bara. Il feretro del papa emerito è stato portato nelle Grotte Vaticane per la sepoltura.
Per i funerali del papa emerito Ratzinger ci sono circa 130 cardinali. A celebrare le esequie è il cardinale Giovan Battista Re, decano del collegio cardinalizio. Papa Francesco ha fatto il suo ingresso sul sagrato in Piazza San Pietro in sedia a rotelle.
